Staying Young- The Secret of Eternal Youth
Eternal Youth. This is the selling point of billion dollar industries. The message is pushed in the products we buy from clothes to anti wrinkle creams and everything in between. Hollywood and TV promote youth big time. We are bombarded with it. There is no escape. Staying young with each passing decade is ” in “.
There is a lot of good that can come from looking after the physical body. Just look at people who are ill and how much they struggle even to perform simple everyday tasks. It is a big effort for them. Yes youth has it advantages and as we get older, gaining in wisdom and the application of our common sense, why not look good as we age?
Live to Ninety and Stay Young
Years ago I managed to get my hands on a very unusual book titled LIVE TO NINETY AND STAY YOUNG by Andrew Stewart. As you open the first few pages of the book there is a photo of a man who appears to be in his thirties. His face in the photo is wrinkle free , with clear eyes, and a healthy complexion. Underneath the photo, to my disbelief, I read the following text.
At age 90,
No nasal catarrh or headaches for 55 years,
Can read newsprint without glasses,
Digestive trouble absent,
Sleeps 8 to 8 1/2 hours natural sleep,
Hearing good,
Eyesight perfect,
Good crop of white hair,
Can walk miles without fatigue,
Can drive a car,
Can sail a boat,
The blood pressure of a young man.
September Eleven Flashbacks
Do you remember the first time you saw the bombing of the trade towers in New York? The first time, even the second time, you do not believe what you are seeing. This was my reaction to the Andrew Stuart bio. It is hard to believe that anyone can live to ninety and stay young. It was stretching my paradigm about old age.
Upon delving into what Andrew Stuart had to say about staying young he made complete sense. There are many good tips in his book. It is easy to read and he has already done it himself.
Conditioned to Grow Old Fast
In our society we are conditioned to see people in their senior years not do much. It is socially acceptable to grow old and retire to the living room couch. What we need is a new way of thinking.
These days many seniors citizens are living vibrant and fulfilling lifestyles because they choose to. They are using the wisdom they have gained over the years and what they can grab hold of the new technology of youth that is now available.
Quality in Years- Not Length in Years
Life and growing old is not so much about how many years you reach. It does not matter if it is 120 years of age or less. It is the quality of living that matters. It is about the service you offer others.
Let Us Take the Time to Listen
Many seniors have worked hard and long all their lives. They have built many of the good things we enjoy today. I am not saying the older generation is perfect. Our generation is not perfect either. But Seniors have years of knowledge and experience to offer. It pays to listen to them. Youth in its attempt to hurry would get to their destination faster if they combined their young energy with the experience of the senior people in our society.
Seniors Have Much to Offer
There is nothing wrong with growing old and looking great. Being in great physical shape and looking very presentable in appearance is a good thing no matter what the age. In growing older we can be of more service to our loved ones and our community because of our growth in all life areas. The experience, wisdom, and information of senior citizens makes these people invaluable to us.
