Time Waste

I spent a large portion of my day yesterday on the phone with sales people trying to sell me stuff. It was a big waste of time. STUFF is a term I use to describe things I do not want. It can be a service or a product. I have to tell you I was NOT IMPRESSED with their sales skills.

The high pressure sellers strain my zen calm. These folks are only after a fast buck. They have no concern if the information or product they provide is going to be of service or value to you. They are mere slaves to the treadmill of life trying to earn a living selling rubbish they do not believe in.

Standing Out

Let me tell you about a gentleman salesman I met. He is a plumber by trade. He would have to be the best salesman I met in the last 12 months. He came over to fit out the new water tank attached to my home. I described what I wanted and he listened patiently. When I finished speaking he made several improvement suggestions for my consideration.

His opinions added to the value of the project and he did not charge an arm and a leg for it. In fact his price was most reasonable. To cut a long story short he handed me the quote, got the go ahead for the job, and delivered what he promised with his plumbing to perfection.

My brother paid me a visit soon after and checked out the plumber’s workmanship. He was very impressed and asked for his number. My brother owns a small business and needs some plumbing maintenance in his office. See how referrals work? Quality and good service stand out a mile and everyone wants to be a part of it. We have to look after good salesman these days. They are a rare breed after all.
